Brian Holdrick poured his first commercial driveway in Sheffield in April 1987. Thirty-eight years and roughly 2,400 pours later, the firm is still family-run — his son Adam took over as managing director in 2019, and Brian still walks the trickier sites.
Brian Holdrick started Holdrick Concrete in April 1987 with a mixer on the back of a transit van and a phonebook of Sheffield builders. The first job was a 90 m² driveway in S7 — paid in cash, finished on a Saturday, still in the ground.
By 1995 the firm had its own yard in S2, a small crew, and a reputation for turning up when it said it would. Foundations followed driveways, garage floors followed foundations, and the patch widened: Rotherham, Doncaster, Chesterfield, the Nottinghamshire pit-villages.
In 2019 Brian's son Adam — a chartered engineer who'd worked eight years on commercial groundworks contracts in Leeds and Manchester — came back to take over the day-to-day. Brian is semi-retired now, but you'll still find him on a Tuesday inspecting a tricky pour. The crew has grown to six and the ethos hasn't shifted: directly-employed, no subbies, honest line-item quotes.
